On Real Clothes Sizes and the Fashion Industry

Finally in the last few years, I think those powers who control the fashion trends have eventually realised the truth of clothing sizes. Whereas merely five or so years ago you were forced to either squeeze into smaller sized fashion clothing, today we have the relief of larger sized clothing. Fashion items such as plus size babydolls make it much simpler on the common lady to find a size that matches her.

I reckon it’s down to simple market forces – the everyday clothing size of women and men in Britain has expanded over the decades, and even though fashion houses have been a bit idle in reacting, they at long last acknowledge that profits derive from giving people what they want.

To add to that, there’s been a shift in fashion towards practicality. Gone are the times of ridiculous stilettoe heels and big hair; now it’s perfectly acceptible to personalize your style without being marked a freak – which truly makes the general public areas and clubs far more fascinating locations. This new trend toward individuality has been a tremendous boon for the smaller boutique clothes stores that are able to cater to micro-trends taking place within the general public.
