Underbetting

Underbetting By B. Butler In general, an underbet into a pot, where the bet seems too small in relation to the amount in the middle, can be interpreted a number of ways. The first interpretation is that the poker bettor is scared, and is betting trying to continue to apply pressure but doesn’t really have that much faith in his poker hand. This interpretation might be applied to a weaker player who had been betting early and then sees a scare card come on the board. The second interpretation is that the bettor is very confident with his poker online hand, and is betting small in order to try to appear weak so that the opponent will at least call and maybe raise. This might happen with players who are more savvy, and prone to slowplaying, willing to take a risk in order to win a bigger pot. Telling the difference between these two is based on feel and the story that the cards tell. In relation to your own hand and the bet, be careful not to get stuck, but in spots where it seems your opponent is of the first interpretation, consider putting in a raise and seeing if you can snatch the pot out from under him.
