We label “physical” and “chemical” agents that make us ill as toxins yet we never admit to ourselves that there are also many “toxic” emotions that also make us ill. In this article I would like to expose some of the “emotional toxins” we willingly carry inside us and also discuss why we give them such immunity.

Firstly, what emotional toxins am I talking about? Well if you reflect on which emotions make you feel uncomfortable, distressed, undermine your energy and your emotional/physical health you will likely add some of the following to your list:

1. Anger

2. Guilt

3. Shame

4. Worry

5. Fear

6. Jealousy

7. Loneliness

8. Anxiety

Your first reaction to such a list might be that “Well these are normal human reactions to life’s circumstances and therefore part of the human condition”. In other words, you likely consider them not as “toxins” i.e. things that are foreign to you, rather you likely think of them as a normal part of you.

The very fact that you have such a perspective suggests that you have never actually stepped back and asked yourself why you have these in you at all.

If you start to ask such questions you start to uncover some very interesting answers. Answers that sound strange to the average person.

For instance, let’s take “worry” as an example.

So why is “worry” inside you? You might say that:

Worry helps prepare me for unforeseen circumstances that might be harmful, hence

It protects me from getting hurt, hence,

It keeps me safe, hence,

It makes me feel secure, peaceful, calm and relaxed.

So, in summary you have come to the interesting conclusion that:

Worry makes you feel safe, secure, peaceful and calm.

A rather interesting and strange conclusion when you know that “worry” actually makes you feel anxious, uncertain, afraid, vulnerable, and not in control of your life.

So you see, the “hidden belief” is not true, is it? Yet, you have been carrying it around inside you without ever really looking at it. What is the consequence to you of carrying around such a false belief around inside of you?

Well, it “anchors” or “holds” the worry, a “toxic emotion” inside your mind/body. What is the consequence to you and your life of carrying this toxic emotion inside your body? Well, if you look closely at what the worry does to you I think you will start to recognize that it is draining your vital life energy and therefore “killing you”!

How are you feeling right now?

You might be surprised that with such a startling realization you are probably feeling better than you thought you would feel. If so, this is because you have just become conscious of your situation and becoming conscious has made you feel more in control of yourself and your life. This is always associated with a good feeling.

Why have you held onto these erroneous beliefs for such a long time? Well largely because, over the span of human history, there has been a lie that has been propagated about who human beings really are. One of those lies goes like this: “Worry is a normal human emotion”.

You likely grew up with this belief and never decided to look at it more closely than you have today. As a result, for most of your life you have been a potential victim to having this “toxic emotion” undermine your life.

Have you been to one of those amazing business briefings outlining the best network marketing company ever, telling you about your opportunity of a lifetime, and promoting one of the most awesome products in history? The answer for me is yes.

Just over a year ago, I attended such a meeting. The atmosphere was electrifying. Everyone was dressed in their finest business attire. The meeting was held in a very prestigious hotel conference room and the speaker….was absolutely incredible.

I was sold – hook, line, and sinker. And sank is exactly what I did. I was intrigued by the possibility of making thousands, as in 5 figures, a month, having the car and home of my dreams and achieving what we all are looking for, financial freedom.

But at what cost would this goal be achieved. Once I got started with company “ABC” I dived in head first. I learned the business and started doing those very same business briefings myself. My upline kept insisting that I exhaust my “warm market”. In network marketing, this is the term used to describe the people closest to you…your family, friends, co-workers, friends of coworkers and so on. The gurus know that your chances of recruiting are greater with those you have a sphere of influence over. Still, as I continued to educate myself about the MLM business, I began to doubt if what I was doing was actually on the up and up. I didn’t want to be known in my community as the “one” who started a pyramid scheme. These are two words, “pyramid scheme” I was confronted with on a regular basis. I almost had my rebuttal memorized. “Oh, no this isn’t a pyramid. We have great products and services to offer. A pyramid scheme has nothing to offer.” And true enough, some of the products were pretty good. Things you certainly could purchase anywhere else and probably for a lot less but good products just the same.

The turn around for me occurred after I became a member of the NFL (no friends left). I did just what my upline told me to do. I exhausted my warm market. No sooner would I sign them up than they would drop off and not “work the business”.A few remained active but just didn’t seem as serious about the business as I was. I just didn’t see how I would ever reach the level of success that was promoted so fervently that first night I attended a business briefing. My upline had no answers for me. “Just keep doing what you’re doing”. That’s the line I was given mostly or urging me to write out my goals and how I planned to achieve them.

I felt lost. The promise of being coached, trained, and taught was never fulfilled. There was no strong emphasis on the products and services only on recruiting.This company sponsored an “opportunity call” every single night (except Christmas). You were urged to pack the conference call with prospects for your business. The calls would last anywhere from forty-five minutes to an hour. One of the top income earners would present the business over the phone. I did what I was told. I kept a phone book in my car, in my bedroom, and at my office. I called people I hadn’t spoken to in years and urged them to listen to “the opportunity of a lifetime”. Some would and some wouldn’t.

At any rate, I never got not one sign up from these opportunity calls. Once I walked out of the fog and realized that this company was so close to being a pyramid the home office should have been in Egypt instead of here in the States!They put so much emphasis on recruiting and none on promoting their “awesome products”. After losing thousands of dollars trying to make thousands and exhausting my “warm market” to the point where when acquaintances saw me, they went in the other direction, I called it quits. Although, I learned a great deal about the industry and know the things to look for if I ever decide to give another network marketing company a go.

Let me just say that all network marketing companies aren’t bad. Two very successful ones come to mind right away – Avon and Mary Kay. Now neither of these promise riches and 5 figures a month. However, they are excellent businesses for supplementing your income. And I’ve never been asked to attend a business briefing by my Avon or Mary Kay distributors!

For no people on earth is it more true than the Japanese, when you say, “you are what you eat”. The Japanese are, by all accounts, the people with the least obesity problem, the highest longevity rate, and best health record. What are they eating?

The importance of rice

Rice is the main carbohydrate food in Japan, consumed with every meal. However, the real basis of the Japanese diet is not rice but fish, consumed at more than 70 kilos per person per yearwhich means 190 grams daily. This combination of rice and fish, as their staple food is far superior to the American meat and potato, the European little of this, little of that diets, and light years ahead of the Russian pork, potato and mayonnaise daily fare.

Japanese consume only 20 kilos of sugar per year (compared to the American 71 kilos per year). Another is the Japanese consumption of cereals (which obviously includes rice) to be 105 kilos per year (compared to the American 68 kilos per year).

The human body appears to be doing much better with natural cereals and less sugar than fried potatoes and ’sugar in everything you eat’ diets. The Japanese have far less incidence of heart disease and cancer than Americans. As they eat as much meat as the Americans do (or more), and smoke more, the theory is refined sugar and stress are the two biggest contributors to destroying one’s health.

Portion size

Another important factor in the Japanese diet is portion size. The portions are small.

This means they savor their food; eat slowly and enjoy it. No “scarfing” down hamburgers and fries here, and king size cola drinks.

Eating with chop sticks help, as you eat more slowly, take smaller bites and are able to appreciate what you are eating. This aids in digestion, and that is a proven fact.

There are two more factors which must be mentioned that make the Japanese diet so successful.

The first is breakfast.

The typical Japanese breakfast can (and usually includes) green tea, steamed rice, miso soup with tofu, spring onions and omelet and both raw and grilled fish.

This gives your body all it needs to start your day well. You will feel better, and such food does not add weight to your body at all. In fact, it stimulates the metabolism mechanism. You will not gain weight, and if overweight, will lose weight.

Variety Never be bored

The second factor is variety.

A typical American will have about 30 varieties of food per week. A typical European (especially southern European) will have about 45. The typical Japanese will have about 100 varieties of food per week, and will include lots of fresh fish, vegetables, fruit and a variety of meats.

There is one over-riding element here as well; the Japanese cook their foods lightly and thus are never feeling stuffed and stuffy after eating.

Work instructions are needed for all those mundane, day-to-day jobs that must be done correctly, in a certain order, without mistakes or else! There are no specific requirements for written work instructions in most quality management systems like ISO 9000 2000. Not because work instructions aren’t useful, but because they vary so much from one company to the next.

Use your written work instructions to train operators, supervisors and managers. Use them for testing and for internal audits. Use your work instructions for breaking down jobs, making improvements and rolling those improvements out to all shifts and divisions. In short, use your work instructions to make sure the work that must be done, gets done right.
